Seal Rings
Seal rings are still as popular today as they were centuries ago. The family crest ring or seal rings were traditionally worn by the male heads of family and passed down through the male generations. Seal rings have sometimes traditionally been given as a ‘coming of age’ gift.
Seal engraving is commonly done onto 9ct and 18ct gold rings which can be set with gemstones, traditionally, carnelian or bloodstone.
If you already have a wax impression or a picture of the family crest we can use this to create the seal engraving or we can consult with Fairbain’s, the most comprehensive list of top family names and crests, to find your crest. Many people nowadays prefer to have their initials or the crest of their professional body engraved on their ring instead of a family seal. We supply a wax impression of the seal with your seal ring for your future reference.
Our seal engraving expert Matthew Webster is one the few remaining seal engravers left in the country and we are very proud to work with him. The seal rings are sent to him securely where the seal will be deeply engraved into the ring to give a reverse impression. The wax impression is made using this engraving and shows the intricate detailing he engraves on the seal ring.
You will see below some examples of his seal engravings and the wax impressions produced from them.
